BJJ Shore Academy purple belt MATT
MORIN who is in the United States Coast Guard had the opportunity on Saturday May 12th to compete in the "Armed Services MMA Championship" in California which consisted of a grappling and mma fight tournament.
Matt trained
very hard for this event, competed in both tournaments that day impressively taking the 1st place grappling win and a 2nd in the MMA fight event. Matt capturing the GOLD medal in grappling made him the first ever CHAMPION for a US Coast Guard!!
The day started as he went 4-0
winning all four of his matches in the grappling division taking 1st
place!!
Then he put the gloves on and fought in the MMA fight tournament
winning 3 out of 4 fights taking a 2nd place for that event!!
(Matt had 8 bouts total going 7 -1 for the entire day)
A great accomplishment to be proud of !!!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts Bill Scott and Dan Strassheim (NJSP) makes sure the New Jersey law
enforcement officers are up to date and at pace with Mixed Martial Arts’ continued growth in the USA.
Since our latest threat is the emergence of the mixed martial arts fighter, law enforcement personnel
must be able to address this new challenge as this sport is growing in popularity. More people
participating in this art means that the chance the officer has to confront someone with this knowledge
is increasing as well.
For the past seven years, Bill Scott and Dan Strassheim have been serving their community instructing Jiu-Jitsu self defense for the
New Jersey State Police C.E.R.T. Teams and local law enforcement agencies in Monmouth and Ocean
counties!
