Gardening Notes By Bixby Park Gardening Club VP Eliza Solorzano
I am pleased to have found Friends of Bixby Park, where I share enthusiasm for keeping Bixby Park a safe and beautiful, a family friendly something-for-everybody park.
Please join Bixby Park Gardening Club every 1st Saturday of the
month at Bixby Park Bandshell at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers are needed, so if
you or someone you know has a green thumb and is interested please
contact me at elizamariesolorzano@gmail.com.
We will be documenting our volunteer efforts and results will be
rewarding with a great sense of community pride and accomplishment. There are four parcels of land at Bixby Park. For now Bixby Park
Gardening Club's efforts will focus on the landscaping and maintanance
around the 1930s bandshell, which is accented by Italian pine and
wisteria on its trellises.
On a recent spring morning, a handful of volunteers planted more
than a dozen shrubs and plants around the bandshell, including
Raphiolepis, Raphiolepis Minor, Tarrissa Tutlei, Star Jasmine and
a Camillia tree.
I would like to take this moment to encourage you to visit the
park, if you have not done so in a long time, and take a look at our
progress at the bandshell. I would also like to encourage park visitors
to assist us in our efforts to keep the park clean.
Thank you for your interest in Bixby Park and I look forward to meeting you on Gardening Day! |
