The assessment requirements for Press in Britain are as follows:
- Week 11: A 2000-word essay (30% of total mark)
- Week 18: An annotated bibliography collecting texts relevant to one of the questions for the second essay (20% of total mark)
- Week 22: A 3000-word essay (50% of total mark)

Second Essay Questions:
Your annotated bibliography (see here) should be completed by 16th February 2009. You should hand it to your class tutor or to Sonia Piton in the Film and Media office, Room 101, first floor at 26 Russell Square. Crowd sourcing idea here.
- Is increasing concentration of media ownership necessarily anti-democratic?
- Do newspapers have a duty to ensure that the advertisements they carry are consistent with the paper’s political commitments?
- Analyse the ways in which any 2 newspapers position themselves in the marketplace
- Analyse the threats and opportunities that the Internet presents to the press in Britain
- What cultural or economic factors explain the rise of ‘real-life’ magazines?
- Assess the use of scientific and/or statistical sources in ONE national newspaper
- Compare the discourse around global warming in TWO national newspapers
- Compare the discourse around immigration in TWO national newspapers
- How important are local newspapers in 2007?
- What can audience theory tell us about newspaper consumption?
