Press in Britain :: week 1

Things to do:

Evernote notebook

  • Create an Evernote account at www.evernote.com.
  • You can download software for Mac, Pc and Windows Mobile, iPhone/iTouch
  • You can install a 'Send to Evernote' web clipper for your web browser
  • Create an Evernote notebook for the course. Click on properties and make sure it is 'published'. Make a note of its 'public address'.
  • Add that published address to the Press in Britain notebooks page.

RSS reader

  • Create a Google account at www.google.com (if you're one of the 14 people left who don't have one)
  • From your 'My Account' page create a Reader account
  • Add some subscriptions. I have included an OPML file on this page that you can import to get you started (see Attachments at the bottom)
  • Try 'sharing' a story. When Google has taken you through the process of creating a shared feed, make a note of its 'public address'.
  • Add that published address to the Press in Britain notebooks page.

del.icio.us bookmarks

  • Create a del.icio.us account at http://delicious.com/.
  • You can import your existing bookmarks if you like
  • Add tags. Any sites that might be useful to the course, add the tag: "birkbeckmedia"
  • When you're done, click on the tag "birkbeckmedia" in your tag list and copy the page address
  • Add that published address to the Press in Britain notebooks page.

Making friends (Optional)

  • Create a Google Talk account at www.google.com/talk/. You can either download the software or use it on the site.
  • Add Paul as one of your contacts: theinternationale [at] googlemail [dot] com
  • Add your googlemail address to the Press in Britain notebooks page.
  • Add your fellow students' as friends so you can see their shared notebooks.
