Paul Caplan :: content to be different

Paul Caplan is an Internet consultant, journalist, photographer and teacher. He works with business, government and the Third Sector on ways of harnessing ‘Open Source Content’ or citizen media. He began as a sports photographer before working on Business to Business magazines as editor, art editor, features editor and photographer/illustrator.  He has taught at Liverpool John Moores University, the OU and of course Birkbeck. He believes we are living and studying in a time of massive change in the media industries, a change that offers new challenges but also new opportunities to producers and businesses. He also argues that the new digital landscape offers new ways of teaching and learning... but more of that on the course.

So you preach a lot about Blogging et al. Where's yours?

I did have a Blog. It disappeared when my host's server went down. I considered relaunching but I didn't for a few reasons:

  1. I think I shouldn't have a corner of the Party. I should be out in the mix dropping comments on my shared RSS reader and bookmarking.
  2. I'm interested in the idea of the fragment (after Benjamin, see the Olympic Arcades) and so I want to explore non-linear ways of contributing to the conversation economy. I'm currently exploring Evernote as a tool.
  3. I'm not looking for a job.
  4. I'm just content to be different.

Talk to me...

(items he has chosen to share from his Google Reader)

As Paul reads his RSS feeds he can hit 'Share' if something looks interesting. This then appears on his shared page and also here. He can also add a note to that shared item for his own or the world's benefit. Those notes can only be seen on the page.
