BUDGIES WILL BE AVALIBLE LATER ON IN 2010
Budgies are native to Australia. The most common budgies are the green and blue. But they do come in many different colours such as yellow, white, grey, violet, and many others. They can live for about ten years with proper care. Some budgies have been known to live for about 15 years.
The housing of your budgie will depend on its activity level. If the budgie will get excersise around the house than a small cage may do. But if the budgie hardly gets time out of the cage than a large cage should be bought. A large cage should also be bought if the birds wings are clipped. Remember to provide lots of toys and perches for your bird. If your bird gets bored than that could lead to feather plucking. It is important to give your bird different types of perches so that he does not develope arthritis in its feet. Budgies also love company and to be handled if tamed properly.
For food i would use a pelleted diet. They have less fat than seeds do. And since budgies are prone to obesity this is a good thing. But your birds diet should also consist of fresh fruits and vegtables shuch as peas, corn, blueberries, cucumber, apple, grapes, and most other healthy food. Avocado and chocolate are highly toxic to all birds. Fox tail millet spray is also a healthy treat.
Moulting is a normal loss of feathers that occurs twice a year. once in fall and once in spring. This process involves the loss of feathers but you should never be able to see bald patches on your bird. All feathers that are lost during this process should grow back within 5 - 10 weeks. The bird may seem a bit more aggressive during this period.
Unlike cats and dogs, budgies do not need vaccines. But they should have their beaks, nails, and wings trimmed or clipped regularly. This is for safety purposes. A lot of people think that it is mean to clip a birds wings but it is actually keeping them out of danger. In a home a bird could fly into windows, mirrors, doors, and walls. Clipping the birds wings prevents that from happening. You should clip your birds wing unless he or she is in an aviary.
