Computational simulations on the effects of
left upper lobectomy on left atrium hemodynamics

Researcher:   Yi Wentao (Doctoral student)

Intro:

Blood flow stagnation in the left atrium (LA) may lead to blood clot formation, which is a significant factor of cerebral infarction.  Clinical studies reported that lung lobectomy with pulmonary vein (PV) resection for lung cancer treatment induces LA thrombosis and related cerebral infarction, while the causal factors was poorly understood. This study  identify the prime causes of potential factors for the LA hemodynamic alteration after the LUL.

Method:

A 4D-CT based computation framework of the LA blood flow was conducted, including 4D-CT image acquisition and optimization, point registration and simulation of computational fluid dynamics
