BiomassVia2009 will provide a release of a bottleneck in the supply chain
and provide a potential list of consumers for this resource.
BiomassVia2009 will focus upon underutilized logging resources. Items that may currently have no market: cull wood, commercial thinning and brush land harvest. By coming together companies and individuals and groups with a need for a supply of biomass for smaller firing requirements will develop a resource base of new fuel. They will also develop an alliance of supply and need to build a fuel flow to fill a potential demand.
Targeted groups to address their needs: · Loggers/harvesters · Natural resource professionals · Landowners · Energy intensive businesses: limestone kilns, wood drying kilns, taconite
Major Objectives: · Provide awareness and knowledge of bio mass harvesting to the stakeholders named · Provide information needed for an energy intensive business to make a decision an economic feasibility of using biomass for energy · Provide a framework for follow-up with each stakeholder group Some of the Subjects to be addressed: o What is Biomass? o Where is the industry? o What are the obstacles and issues? o When will it become one of the most valuable and viable? o What are the permits that are required? o How long does it take to get permitted o How much does it cost for permitting? o Are there levels that do not require permitting o Who are the state and federal agencies that one must make contact with to get permitting done?
o What are the most efficient biomass converters to energy? Why? o What size do they facilitate? Company and building sizes o What kind of fuel do they consume? o Are there better fuels? o What can one do with a biomass energy converter? Heat? Electricity?
