GluSense

GluSense is a medical device start-up company that is developing a novel long term technology for Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) that will help diabetics achieve better glycemic control as well as improve their quality of life.GluSense’s revolutionary technology has resulted in the development of a stable and accurate long term continuous glucose sensor, marking a step change in the rapidly growing CGM market.

There are over 40 million diabetics in the US and Europe alone. Accordingly, the potential annual market for continuous glucose monitoring is estimated at several billion dollars. Results from animal studies have demonstrated GluSense’s ability to be a leader in this market.

Technology

Glucose concentration is monitored by detecting changes in optical signals that are emitted from fluorescent glucose-binding proteins. These proteins are expressed by genetically engineered living cells that are encapsulated within a biocompatible polymer and are protected from the patient’s immune system by a selective porous membrane. The encapsulated cells are subcutaneously implanted and serve as the sensor of the device.
