At the Binford Bash, on April 25, we added  Mosaic signs created by our Latin students and the first of several benches created by our students taking stained glass at the Visual Arts Center (with the help and guidance of instructor Mary McNeil) to the Rain Garden.

The Binford PTA Rain Garden Project was awarded the Aqua Achievement award on Dec.  4, 2008.

This award was the result of a Maggie Walker Governor's School student volunteer experience at our Rally for the Rain Garden.  Siobhan Rigby was so impressed with our efforts that she nominated us to the Lego Robotics Team with which she worked.

They were engaged in a "Climate Connections" project.  Their team was looking to recognize groups that were working in the community to help the environment. We thank the "Demon Squirrels" Lego Robotics team for recognizing our hard work!

The Rain Garden is being created by the Building and Grounds Committee of the Binford PTA, through the generous support of the Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants Program, The Virginia Environmental Endowment, the Fan Townhouse and Garden Club, the Fan District Association, and the Fan Women's Club.

Volunteers are needed for this committee.

The Binford PTA expresses its deepest appreciation to the many students, parents, teachers, neighbors, business partners, and community members who helped us as we added our first fall plantings to our rain garden.   Over 80 volunteers came out to help Binford bloom on October 18!  Many others came on November 1, to continue the work.

In addition to the many volunteers who staffed our tables and worked in the garden, we thank everyone who rented yard sale space and those who shopped at the sales for their financial support of Binford at our Rally for the Rain Garden!

We also thank the following organizations and businesses whose donations for the Rally for the Rain Garden helped to make the day such a great success:
