Upward Bound is a FREE summer program for rising 9th graders. Students live in campus residence halls at Virginia Union University and are immersed in a concentrated, challenging and supportive learning environment. This six-week program begins on June 16th. Field trips are taken and students go on college tours the last week. There is academic advising and tutoring. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post secondary education.
Eligibility requirements:
Rising 9th grader
Interest in attending a college or university after high school
Neither parent nor legal guardian has graduated from a four year college or university.
Must meet low income requirements. You will be asked to attach a copy of 2007 tax return, however, if you did not file taxes, you will be asked to attach a copy of W-2 forms from 2007, or a signed statement regarding family income, or a signed financial aid application.
Academic requirements: Average student with Bs or Cs. Students who take advanced classes may also apply if they meet the above requirements and are not getting honor roll grades. This program is intended to be motivational and all core subject areas are taught.
