Binford Harp Student Wins Celtic Harp Competition. Binford harp student Ian McVoy won first place in the Youth Journeyman category of the Pan-Celtic harp competition held Oct. 24 at the Meadow Highland Games in Doswell. Ian also won two $50 gift certificates from the Virginia Harp Center for Best Strathespey and Most Promising Harpist. Congratulations Ian!

The Binford Holiday Hoopla The Binford Bash was the sping 2009 festival celebrating and showcasing the Visual and Performing Arts. For the 2009 - 2010 school year, we are moving the Binford Bash from the spring to the fall and changing its name to the Holiday Hoopla. But don't worry -- we'll still have all the wonderful music, art, games, and more!! We have scheduled this fabulous festival for Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 12 noon - 5 pm, so mark your calendars now! The National Junior Art Honor Society will be sponsoring Binford's Art Club. We will be “Going Green for the Holidays,” creating art to be sold and auctioned at the Holiday Hoopla. Students will turn trash to treasure creating art out of natural and recylced materials. The art club will also create and donate group projects to the Hoopla's silent auction. Binford Students Earn Silver at FCCLA Nationals The Binford Middle School Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is proud to announce that Kumarrie Carter, Michael Williams, Brandon Staten, and Joshua Young were awarded silver medals for their STAR events presentations at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, July 11-16, 2009. These four young men were selected to represent Virginia at the FCCLA National STAR events during the State Recognition and Leadership Conference, March 27-29, 2009, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They traveled to Nashville with more than two hundred Virginia delegates to participate in STAR events with 2800 FCCLA members from across America and Puerto Rico. This summer, Ms. Grinnell organized and guided a 10 day study abroad trip to London, Paris, and Barcelona for our Binford students. We had 20 participants including teachers, students, parents, and grandparents. Ms. Grinnell is happy to report that the trip was a great success! Binford Garden Benefits Central Virginia Foodbank.
Volunteers working in the Binford Gardens on Wednesday, Aug. 26 gathered 7 pounds of tomatoes and basil from the pizza garden. The produce was donated to the Central Virginia Foodbank. Way to go Binford Garden Volunteers!
