Binford has many after school activites. Our most popular include classes at the Visual Arts Center and Team-Up activities.
Visual Arts Center classes are now posted and visual arts teacher Ms. Hein-Sadler is taking registrations for fall 2009. These after school classes are taught by professional arts and are just around the corner from Binford on Main Street. The classes are free but have limited space. Click here to read more>>
New Art Club! The National Junior Art Honor Society will be sponsoring Binford's Art Club. We will be “Going Green for the Holidays,” creating art to be sold and auctioned at the Holiday Hoopla. Students will turn trash to treasure creating art out of natural and recylced materials. The art club will also create and donate group projects to the Hoopla's silent auction. Team-Up is a program offered in conjunction with the Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation. Students have the opportunity to finish homework and afterwards participate on a Binford sports team or in any of a number of other activities. Team-Up programs include: basketball, cheerleading, volleyball, step team, flag football, track, soccer, and more. For more information on Team-Up at Binford, contact Ms. King at the school, 780-6231. Soccer is new for the 2009-2010 school year. We are looking for assitant coaches for soccer. The Binford Chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) meets on Tuesday afternoons in Ms. Pingel's room. The FCCLA recently developed its own website. Click here to learn more about this fun group!
The Binford Mind Games Team meets on Wednesday afternoons in Ms. Hadlock's room during winter and early spring. The team competes against other RPS schools in a series of academic challenges. During 2008-2009, Binford tied for first place in general knowledge and placed second in the long term project. We know Binford will field a strong team again next year. Girls For A Change meets on Monday afternoons. Students learn about ways to effect positive change in the community. Click here for more details.
School Newspaper. Ms. Allyn works after school with a group of students who produce The Roar, Binford's school newspaper. Please contact Ms. Allyn at the school for details. Future Business Leaders of America meets weekly with Ms. Temple. Members participate in a variety of activities, including job shadowing programs, community service projects, and competitive events while developing leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
School Recycling Program. Students work with Ms. Hackett to help promote recycling within the school.
National Junior Honor Society meets monthly to encourage academic excellence and promote service to the school and community. Ms. Davis and Ms. Taylor are the faculty sponsors for this program.
Virtual World is a weekly program for students interested in exploring and creating virtual worlds on the computer and learning about engineering and programming. Interested students should contact Mr. Townsel.
Other activities occur throughout the school year. Students should also be encouraged to listen carefully to morning and afternoon announcements for information about activities. After school activity buses are provided most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, for our bus riding students.
