Interests

It seems that young students cannot have any interest in their spare time due to the high pressure from the school. It is not true. As a long-time student, I have had numerous interests in my spare time. When I was a primary student, I think I had talent in music. Due to the irresponsible teacher of playing the violin, I started to learn the accordion. Hard working as I was, I made very fast progress. I passed the band 5, band 7 and band 10 tests in 1995, 1996 and 2002. However, I did not have a video recorded due to the lack of equipment.

After I got to Waterloo, I found the advantage of playing the piano on campus and started teaching myself with the help of online instructional videos. After several years’ practicing, I can play a few famous pieces from Richard Clayderman and Maksim Mrvica. With my homepages established on googlepages.com, I will begin recording my playing and gradually upload to YouTube. I have recorded a few classical pieces already and they are available on my YouTube channel. If you like my performance, please subscribe my channel. Also, please feel free to leave you comments and suggestions.

I haven’t had a long history of enjoying figure skating. Some time in 2005, I was able to watch the videos of a few amazing skaters, including Lu Chen, Michelle Kwan, Yuna Kim, Mao Asada, Stephane Lambiel, Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao, Alexei Yagudin and Evgeny Plushenko. Although I do not skate at all, I think I am very familiar with the techniques of figure skating after a couple of years’ watching videos online. In the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, it was fantastic to see that Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao won the gold medals in the pair's competition, especially considering that she was 31 and he was 37. Their winning represents a classic story of hard work and perseverance are paid off. Also, I feel happy for Yuna Kim for winning the lady's competition with record breaking scores in both short and long programs. Her jumping abilities are outstanding. Also, I admire Mao Asada, who did three triple Axels in the Olympic competition. She is the only female competitor that has relatively high success rate of doing the hardest jump for female skaters. I bet Stephane Lambiel were dying for the ability of doing triple axel jump, with which he would have won the male competition. After all, he is a great skater with the best spinning skills and great artistry. Evegeny Plushenko returned after three and half years but only won the silver medal. I feel sorry for him because did quad + triple combination in both short and long programs - the only skater doing that. I expect to see that he stays and grabs the gold medal at the Sochi Olympic Games in 2014.

In my spare time, I also like making friends to enlarge my network. I kept an eye on foreign exchange, precious metals, oil prices, international finance and a little bit on the stock market. I also like learning and practising cooking skills. I kept watching news, especially news about sport, health and beauty. I often download broadcast to my Microsoft Zune player to view the news broadcast. I have subscribed to CBC the World at Six, MSNBC Countdown, MSNBC Rachel Maddow Show, NBC Meet the Press, NBC Nightly News, NBC Today Show, and CBC The National on Demand.
