I cannot even remember when I first started thinking of establishing a personal homepage for myself – probably in 1999 (Haha, in the last century). At that time, Internet was still a new to most people. I still remember it cost about 18 RMB Yuan for an hour to surf the Internet at a Net Bar in Xi’an back then. Now, Internet has developed so quickly that Modem which I first used to hook up the WWW at home is now disappearing in the IT field. Almost families in the world are using high-speed internet to enjoy the bigness of the Internet. As things develop, Internet just get bigger, stronger, faster and more and no one can have the wildest imagination of how it is going to become in the future.

After seeing a few friends’ homepages which had fascinated me, I had the motive of establishing a homepage when I was in Xi’an at the end of 1999. However, I had no real progress in making the webpage due to a lack of time and enough materials. It had been a long time since I first urged myself to establish the homepage and I never feel bored looking at good examples of personal homepages.

When I got to Waterloo in 2002, I had a chance to use roommate’s space to post a few pictures to my parents. In the meantime, graduate students in our faculty are authorized space to establish personal webpage. That was the first time I started establishing the homepage. Honestly, I am not an IT guy with fancy materials and enough knowledge to build attracting website. After establishing a few succinct pages with several links and pictures, I stopped updating the website for about 2 years.

When IT companies began to provide blog services, I found it perfectly suited to me as the templates are so convenient to create pages. More importantly, I can post my diary on line without fearing of losing them. Then, I established my spaces at MSN Space in 2005. I have been updating the space frequently when I have time.

Recently, Google and its related services are among my most visited sites and I found great coordinative features among Google-based services. After watching another roommate’s website at googlepages.com, I decided to switch my personal spaces to googlepages.com. I started working on my webpage at googlepages.com in June 2008. As of June 15, 2008, the site is still yet to be accomplished although I am making progress everyday. I believe I will have a good site established based on googlepages.com.

As googlepages.com has been shut down. I have to establish new personal webpages. Although google automatically migrated my google pages to google sites, the quality was very poor. Accordingly, I decided to create the pages on google sites myself. It will take a long time to finish, but I will do it gradually.
