The Big Yellow Barn
3201 Muscatine Ave
Iowa City, IA
Sale is currently pending
Imagine telling your friends and family that you live in a dairy barn! Originally built at the turn-of-the-century, this barn in Iowa City was renovated into five condos by Jim Nagle of Nagle, Hartray & Associates, Chicago in the early 80's to preserve it from being torn down. As a featured home in the House Beautiful (May 1982) article "The House in Your Future: A Condominium that Looks Like a Home," this condominium has one of a kind characteristics that you will find in no other condo in the area. Using the original structure as a frame, the interior was finished extensively with reclaimed wood taken from the original farm house which sat in the current garden. Our family has enjoyed living and hosting parties in this unique house for the last four years and are only leaving to move onto a new job. Located 3.7 miles from the hospital and takes about 10 minutes to make the drive. Contact us at: bigyellowbarn@gmail.com or 319-351-9195

The lot has a large yard in the front and back of the house with the special feature of having a community garden located on the eastern side of the lot. This is divided from the barn by the driveway which courses around to the back where each person's garage is located.
