Corned Beef, Cabbage & Sage Potatoes Corned beef and cabbage! We both love corned beef a lot but we had never tried to make it before so we got 2 pounds of corned beef and threw it and the spice pack that it comes with in a slow cooker for 8 hours. Then we cooked up some cabbage and butter and made my mom's famous sage potatoes for a side. Delicious. I'd forgotten how much I like cabbage. Corned beef- Put beef in the slow cooker and cover barely cover with water. Add the provided spice pack and cook for 8 hours on low. Sage Potatoes- Preheat oven to 425. Lightly coat an over safe pan with olive oil. Layer the pan with fresh sage leaves where the potato will be put. Salt the leaves to taste. Take medium size potato (2 in. around) cut in half and place face down on sage leaves. drizzle a little extra virgin over each and bake for 20 minutes. Cabbage- Put an inch of water and a half teaspoon of salt in a medium sized pot. Cut the cabbage into 6 wedges. place in the pot and bring to a boil. Simmer covered for 8 minutes. Gently flip wedges over and simmer for an additional 8 minutes. drain cabbage and return to pan. On low heat add 3 tablespoons of butter into cabbage until melted. Serve. -scott- Lunch - 031507
My second experiment with my new slow cooker, put in last night and taken out this morning. I think I've eaten corned beef only once or twice in my life and don't remember much about it, so I hope it's good.
