Miller Canyon
Miller Canyon, ever hear of it? We hadn’t until we went into Riley, Oregon, three miles down the road from camp. When we spotted the name on a sign post, we just had to head that way. The paved road turned to gravel, and at the opening to the canyon we passed through a cattle gate and the gravel turned to dirt and rock. . . Perfect.
A huge burn had left it’s scar on the land about 10 years ago, so some of it doesn’t have any trees, which makes for some really great views from the top of the many ridges. We could see snowcapped mountains in the distance, as well as, dust roads in the ravines. Other areas have big Ponderosa Pines and all of it has sage brush. The occasional creeks are lined with tall green grass and willows. Mallard ducks share the marshes with the black angus cattle.
The cattle are owned by the Silvercreek Ranch Co. which has 100’s of acres and doesn’t want anyone trespassing, but at least there is an ATV area near. Most of the roads are open to vehicles. We took as many side roads as allowed and found several old hunter campgrounds and a couple of older corrals.
We must of missed a couple of turns because we came out about thirty miles east of where we thought we would, in Burns, Oregon. We’ve never been lost, we just don’t always know where we are.
Riding the sidecar rig in this rough country can be challenging, especially on the two-ruts roads. As passenger I try to keep my side of the rig on the ground, but I’m not always successful. But, hey, that’s part of the fun. Paul and Pat Lux

Want to feel the power of the press?
The club needs someone to step up and be the newsletter editor. The pay is great! (Kind of like the stimulus package from D.C. that us “citizens of the world” are feeling the benefit of) – OK, the pay is nothing – but unlike the “stimulus” package, you won’t go into “hock” in the future (on the other hand, print your own money if you like – it’s not like it isn’t being done by others).
If you’re interested, make sure you contact Jerry (otherwise his coaching days could be severely cut)……

The Prez Says…
After a very long winter, spring has finally come and along with that, I'm seeing many motorcycles on the road and a few sidecar rigs. I haven't been out riding yet. I kinda got roped into coaching my granddaughter’s fastball team, and between coaching, practices etc., and playing ball myself, I haven't got much time left. I'll have to get my priorities straight and get the sidecar rig on the road.
Upcoming is the Chelan rally and the Yakima UNrally. I'm hoping to make both rallies.
Our Footnotes editor, Jack, says this will be his last issue. First of all I would like to convince him not to resign, but if I can't I would like to thank him for all his hard work with Footnotes and help with the rallies. Jack, you're still going to help with the rallies, eh? It gives you an excuse to come to Canada for the beer. (Editor’s Note: If there’s beer, I’m there)
I will need someone to step up and do the Footnotes. We might have to cut it back to 2 issues a year and if most of the issues can be emailed to the members, it could cost next to nothing to operate the club. Maybe no more dues????? (just some thoughts). I'll play it out and see what happens. Give me some feedback.
Thanks again Jack.

Ears across the Border
Connor, Arielle and I got to the Timberline Campground Friday evening. Louise Wright was already settled in for the night and Bill McMonnies was sitting by the campfire. I spent a few hours swapping stories with Bill then headed to the Combi-camp. It rained some over night but Saturday wasn't too bad. Jack & Dan (his step brother from Seattle) showed up on their solo rigs and were seriously considering sleeping in the club house, but eventually wound up in tent town. Sherry and Chris showed up in the afternoon but couldn't stay because their hot water tank at home had burst. They left us wieners and other food before the left. Joan, Dick and Louise prepared the corn and wieners etc. (Thank you). We all ate and ate. (and Jack & Dan drank and drank – must have been some good wine.) Thanks to Bill for paying for corn. We had a small turnout, maybe due to the not so good weather. It did rain, but it is nice to have the room to keep dry and warm. Again Jack has pictures. I'll say no more. The Prez

Mirror Lake (Kootney Kampout)
My granddaughter, Arielle and I left a few days early. We spent one night in Kelowna visiting relatives. The next orning we headed to Vernon and from there we tooled Hwy 6 east. The weather was fine. I always enjoy this Hwy; not too much traffic, nice twisting roads and very scenic. We got to Mirror Lake late in the afternoon. Ron and Chris Guick, Rod and Angie Hooper were there setting up camp. We set up the Combi-camp and were set for the night.Friday evening was spent in Kaslo and upon return to the campground, sitting around the campfire, sharing thoughts and stories. Saturday some went to Ainsworth Hot Springs to spend a few hours relaxing. When we got back to Mirror Lake it was time to make the annual Chili. Chris and Angie brewed up some mild and hot chili. As always the food was excellent and after washing the pots etc. we sat around the campfire and again more thoughts and stories. We didn't have a lot of people come this year for many different reasons, but the ones that did come, enjoyed the weekend. Thanks again to Chris and Angie.
