History of the Event

Some time back in 1998 the Biddenham Sue Ryder Support Group were looking for ways of raising more money for St Johns and the idea of a run was suggested. Two runners from Bedford Harriers came to talk to the support group about organising a run and without their assistance the event would not have taken place. The first runs started with around 250 runners in both races. The runs now have approximately 600 runners entering.

Having organised the event for 11 years the Biddenham Support Group felt it was time to hand over the reins. A new race oranisation team has been put together for 2009. We are runners from both Bedford Harriers and Bedford & County Athletic Club as well as some of the people that have been involved in previous years, working in co-operation with the fund raising unit at St John's. Our intention is to keep the same friendly atmosphere so that everyone can continue to enjoy the event.

We are grateful for the continued support of the local community and the running clubs. Members of the Bedford Harriers and Bedford & County Athletic Club help on the day to erect the finish line, commentate on the runs and help with marshaling.

The event raises approximately £10,000 each year and all the proceeds go the Sue Ryder Care - St John's Hospice at Moggerhanger in Bedfordshire. All of the proceeds go to the hospice.
