Impractical Theology

The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting;

it has been found difficult and left untried.

What Does "Impractical Theology" Mean?

 Nearly every Seminary or Bible College has a course of study entitled "Practical Theology" which attempts to marry Christian belief with day-to-day living -- trying to make Christianity "practical".

"Impractical Theology" is a recognition that what Jesus taught, according to the accepted wisdom of the day (any given day, ours as well as first century Palestine), was anything but practical. Hence the quote from the esteemed Mr. Chesterton above. It's not that Christianity has failed to capture the hearts of our culture, it is simply that most of us who call ourselves by the name of Christ (Christians) have not lived out the impractical intensity of one who understands that they were once dead and are now alive.
