I was baptized in December of 1986. In 1991 I went back to school to get four years of criminal justice and became a correction officer at a maximum security prison. In 1997 I would have the wind knocked out of me religiously. I was invited into a Bible discussion and thought it was a nice opportunity to share. These six guys had other plans. They decided to attack, not my religion, but my Bible. For what seemed like an eternity (more like two hours), they took me over the hill and down the valley of: "why does your Bible read this way when ours reads like this?" (They were KJV only fans) I mean, we must have gone to almost 100 verses or more. I was at a loss in being able to deal with their questions.
I went back to my house and the tears were flowing. I felt like I had failed God miserably. I had used my Bible for years to defend my beliefs, but was unable to defend my Bible. I prayed like I had never prayed before. I made a covenant that I would study this through. This was the day I started to study both Hebrew and Greek, Bible translation, textual criticism and so much more. I would study for 6-8 hours a day, seven days a week for the next ten years straight.
In 2005 I decided to take the next level, go back to school once more. Online education is replacing on grounds university schooling. So, I decided to test it out. I started at Grand Canyon University. I was majoring in religious studies. I would transfer to Liberty University LU after two semesters, and that was a great decision. To me this is the best online school. I am now at Reformed Theological Seminary RTS and I think it is equal with LU in many ways. It is my hopes to go on to Trinity College for the PhD and teach online myself.
You are likely wondering how I now feel about that conversation that changed my life? Oh, how I wish I could do that conversation again. I started this website for the purpose of putting together information that would interest the novice as well as the professor and his students.
