April:  The founder of CIVIC (a non-profit organization) was killed in a roadside bomb blast.  Her interview on NPR highlighted her belief that "we are here to win the hearts and minds of the local people."
I asked myself, "Can we connect U.S. students with people in other countries by Skype?"

January:  I heard Professor Joseph Nye speak about "soft power."  


2012

Planned in Sept. 2012:  A visit to Cleveland to the Council on World Affairs that Brooks Emeny worked at for 12 years (1935-1947).
