Statement of Interest 

My research and teaching focus on the socio-cultural basis of observable language use. I am particularly interested in the cultural logic of speaking in public in particular communities of speakers, and the creation and use of cultural knowledge in small group interaction. 

News

My first book, tentatively titled Speaking Hatefully: Culture, Public Communication, Political Action, is now under contract with Penn State University Press. The book is scheduled to appear in 2012 in the press's "Rhetoric and Democratic Deliberation" series.
