Have just had a fire weather update from Bushfires NT at 1230hrs. Fire Danger for almost the whole Top End north of Katherine is now Extreme, FDI in Central Vernon - much of the Darwin rural area - is now 95, which may be a record.

Winds are very strong and gusty and extremely variable in direction. Fire crews are on duty mopping up and patrolling the Livingstone and Jenkins Road fire grounds.

Any fires in these conditions would be almost impossible to control, even with immediate air support.
