Fire update

posted Oct 7, 2009 5:24 PM by Frank Dunstan   [ updated Oct 23, 2010 6:07 PM ]

There are numerous fires burning across the Top End with fire fighters out all yesterday and last night.

The forecast is for extreme fire danger conditions.

Hot, dry, moderate to fresh and gusty southeast winds are expected to cause NEAR
EXTREME TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER which will make grass fires difficult to control
over the Darwin-Daly District, including the Katherine Region, during today.

It's the afternoon - hot and dry with wind conditions ranging from dead calm to strong and gusty. Hoping that nobody decides that this is a good time to get out the mower or to use their angle grinder or welder outdoors.

GFU fully fuelled, water tank full and yellow overalls and boots by the back door for a hasty departure.

Pessimist? No, just experienced.
