Northern Territory Fire Control Regions
The Northern Territory is divided into six Fire Control Regions that reflect varying land use, population density, climate, soil and vegetation type.
A Bushfires Committee represents each region and the five members are selected on a basis of local knowledge, experience or skills in bushfire management. The Regional Fire Control Officer for each Region is also a member of the Committee. The main statutory function of the Regional Bushfires Committees is the prevention and control of wildfires within the respective areas of responsibility. In addition the Committees provide information and recommendations to the Bushfires Council for consideration and advice.
