BFAAI RELIEF CAMPAIGN FOR CDO and ILIGAN CITY FLOOD VICTIMS

The worst calamity to hit the Cagayan De Oro and Iligan City since the early 1900s is far from over. Rebuilding communities and people’s lives will be a grueling process. The tragedy, BFAAI learned, directly hit home for some members who remain to have friends and family members in CDO. BFAAI and its officers continue to monitor the urgent need for relief assistance.

The BFAAI Board set aside $500 for donation to the Red Cross.  This amount is merely a drop in the bucket. BFAAI, through its current Treasurer, will continue to receive donations from its members until February 28. If you wish to donate to CDO flood victims, please mail your check to Malou Mendoza, P.O. Box 24734, Lexington, KY 40524-4734 payable to the Red Cross, indicating on the Memo line that it is for “Cagayan De Oro Philippines Relief Assistance”.

There are many opportunities to help our kababayans in CDO and Iligan City. BFAAI encourages everyone to do so, please.

BFAAI PLANNING A CONSULAR OUTREACH PROGRAM IN KENTUCKY

The BFAAI Board is studying whether its members and other Filipinos in Kentucky and neighboring states, i.e. OH, TN, GA, FL, will benefit from a consular outreach program.

A consular outreach program is a convenient way of making consular services available to Filipinos. Instead of travelling (at least) 540 miles to Washington DC, the services will be available right in Kentucky’s backyard. Kentucky is under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Consular Office in Washington DC. The DC Office will hold a consular outreach program in Kentucky, if there are a significant number of Filipinos in need of its services.

Among the consular services that will be available in Kentucky are as follows:

  1. issuance, renewal of, replacement of lost Philippines passports;
  2. notarization and authentication of documents, such as powers of attorney, last will and testament, deeds of sale, among others;
  3. processing of dual citizenship
  4. transporting of pets to the Philippines
  5. applying for an NBI clearance
  6. renewal of Philippine driver’s license
  7. Absentee voting registration
  8. Tourist Visa Extensions for foreign nationals planning to stay longer than 21 days.

If you or any family member or friend will benefit from a consular outreach program, please let the BFAAI Board and Officers know by completing the accompanying form below and by sending it to Atty. Sheilah Galvez Kurtz, PO Box 171, Frankfort, KY 40602-0171.
