Rebecca Redmond
Costume Design
| Rebecca's love of costume design can be traced back to her earliest days playing dress up. A natural ham, young Ms. Redmond would put on full costumed one-woman productions for anyone who would watch. It made perfect sense then, when she decided to go for her BFA in theater at Hofstra University in New York. While there, she received training in a wide spectrum of disciplines including theater history, costume history, prop making, stage make-up, play analysis, dance, vocal training, acting for film, and play production. Her education also included several classes at the School for Film and Television in Manhattan and studying abroad in London with a six week course in 20th century British theater. In 2002 she graduated from Hofstra with honors and her BFA. Rebecca's next adventure brought her to Sacramento, California where she worked as a costume designer with the off-beat theater company, Beyond the Proscenium, on their productions of "Sci Fi Hotel" versions 1.0 and 2.0. Realizing that costume design was her true passion, Rebecca decided to head back to school, this time UC Davis, to get her masters degree. There she spent two intensive years studying design under Maggie Morgan, Tom Munn, and John Iacovelli. As part of her design thesis, Rebecca had the honor and pleasure of designing costumes for world-class director, Irina Brown's production of "Six Characters in Search of an Author." Immediately after earning her MFA, Rebecca headed off to work in Los Angeles first as a stock assistant and shopper for the Los Angeles Opera and then as wardrobe head for the Hip Films' feature "Love Made Easy" (where she also had her screen debut in a cameo as "Girl Who Gets Her Purse Stolen"). Upon her return to Sacramento, Rebecca continues to work at many theaters in Northern California including Sacramento Theater Company, Shotgun Players, Marin Shakespeare Company, The B St. Theater Company, Women's Will, Sacramento's Music Circus, and the California State Fair. She is the resident designer at Sacramento's newest professional theater, Capital Stage, which was voted Best Professional Theater 2006 (Sacramento News & Review). Her work has included guest lecturing on costume design at UC Davis, McClatchy High School, and Mira Loma High School. She is also currently an adjunct professor at Folsom Lake College for their brand new theater department. When not working, Rebecca promotes the rescue of retired greyhounds while walking her own retired racer, Fast Niki.
