Welcome Educators,
I have created this website to accompany my new book entitled Using Web 2.0 Tools in the K-12 Classroom. I want us to continue to work together to integrate some of the exciting new Web 2.0 tools into K-12 classrooms and libraries and to add new ideas, suggested uses, practical examples and exercises to try to make it fun and easy to start using these tools.
You will see ideas for the newbie who may be timid but wants to get started using technology and you will read about best practices that you can model offered by other educators. For those who have taken the plunge and begun in some small way to use the Internet for research or email, we want you to go farther and practice with some of the Web 2.0 tools included in my book. The book contains technology ideas and pedagogical strategies to use with blogs, wikis, podcasts, video, Google Tools and much more.
With technology there’s always something new so check out our “What’s New” section to learn about the latest tools used by pioneering educators and find out how they are using technology to enhance student learning. Click the Web 2.0 Tools tab to find your grade level—K-5, grades 6-8, 9-12 and cross curricular (all grades). Then, select the subject area in which you are interested: English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Science or Other Subjects. Once you are familiar with activities in your own subject area, see how you can work with other educators on cross-curricular topics.
If you want some hands-on practice, try some of the exercises in the section “Now You Try It….” Ideas in this section may give you just what you need for a quick lesson.
Explore the site and visit it often, take away a tip or lesson idea and once you’ve tried it, email me the results—share your expertise and personal experience with your fellow educators! I look forward to hearing from you.
