Photos Added!

We've updated the site with pictures of the last few weeks' activities. Check out our Photos page for slideshows and links to the original pictures. These include the Art & Photography Show opening, the BETWEEN FENCES grand opening, docent training, and several of our programs. The exhibition is going very well, and despite some nasty weather, we have drawn some pretty good traffic into the museum. Thanks everyone for coming!

Docent Training Re-Scheduled

Note: Training originally scheduled for Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 has been rescheduled due to the weather.

NEW DOCENT TRAINING DATES:

Thursday, December 4th at 4pm
Friday, December 5th at 9am
Note that only one docent training session is necessary, and you can attend docent training "just for fun" if you want to.

Please call or e-mail us with any questions, or if you will be planning to attend on either the 4th or 5th.

Special Hours for Between Fences

During the exhibition of BETWEEN FENCES (November 29th - January 11th) we will be maintaining these open hours:

Tuesday - Friday: 10am - 6pm
Saturday: 9am - 3pm
Sunday: 1pm - 4pm

We hope this will allow more flexibility for groups to visit us. However, if you would like to visit outside these hours, please call the office at 815.234.5031 and we will try to accommodate your needs.

Art & Photo Show Deadline Extended

Due to popular demand, we've extended the deadline for the art & photo contest. It's also now open to residents of Ogle, Lee, and Winnebago counties. Get your entry forms in by November 1, 2008! See our Art/Photo show page for more details.

Volunteers Needed!

We need your help. Even if you only have one hour, we have many projects both big and small that you can get involved with. Below are some of the ways that you can help.

Mystery Fence of the Week
- Pick up Mystery Fence ballots from featured library
- Return them to the museum
- Sign up for one week or more

Exhibit Work
- Help installing and taking down exhibit

Art / Photo Show
- Help installing and taking down exhibit

Crossing Boundaries (local exhibit)
- Help designing, writing, building, installing and taking down exhibit

Between Fences Opening Day
- Set up and take down

Lecture Series
- Set up and take down

Craft Series
- Set up and take down
- Lead individual craft days - great if you love kids!

Autumn on Parade Float
- Decorating the float
- Ride the float / Walk along and give handouts

Festival of Trees
- Guides
- Decorate Museum

Museum Ambassadors
- Post flyers around Ogle County off official list

Docents
- Train Dates: December 1 & 2
- Must attend one training session and commit to 2 shifts
- Docents will receive training packet and a Museum t-shirt

Seeking Docents

Would you like to play a special role in this Between Fences exhibition? Docents for Between Fences receive special training and several resources to assist them in leading group tours. Being a docent is a fun way to get involved and meet people. Check out our docent page for more information.

Art & Photo Contest Announced!

People are getting excited about our county-wide Art & Photography Competition! For more information, go to the art & photo page! All entries to the contest will be displayed in the Byron Museum during the Between Fences exhibition, and prizes will be awarded for the top 3 entries in each of 4 categories. The competition is open to amateurs and professionals who reside in Ogle County. Entry deadline is October 15th!
