In conjunction with
the opening of Between Fences, the Byron Museum will also unveil a
brand new exhibit which is still in production. "Crossing Boundaries" will tell the story of lesser-known historical figures
from different towns in Ogle County. The Byron Museum has reached out
to the libraries and historical societies of each town in Ogle County
to accomplish this mission. Barriers and boundaries, and overcoming
them, is the focus of this exhibit. One example is Polo's submission of
Dr. Sarah Hackett Stevenson, who overcame uncountable obstacles in
becoming the first female admitted to the American Medical Association.
Every town has people hidden in its past who have overcome barriers –
big and small – to accomplish great things, and to change the history
of the town forever. The following towns will be represented in this
new and inspiring exhibit: Oregon, Byron, Mt. Morris, Polo, Stillman
Valley, Forreston, Davis Junction, Grand Detour, and Rochelle. After January 11, 2009, this exhibit will also be
made available as a traveling exhibit to any organization around Ogle
County who wish to borrow it. |
