Growing up I was involved with the Girl Guides of Canada for a number of years. I truly adored my time with the organization, the many wonderful people I encountered, the slew of immensely useful skills I acquired, and most definitely the badges I earned! In 2007, as a means of keeping the Guiding flame alive in my life, I started collecting Girl Guide (and Girl Scout) badges, patches (crests), pins and other related items from both Canada and international destinations. I often swap patches will fellow collectors from all corners of the globe, and snapped this photo a little while back when I needed to show a few of the many Canadian fun patches (that is to say patches which can be purchased instead of earned/awarded) I had available to trade to at the time. Something about the gentle light and pale, almost dusty grey-blue background paired with the punchy hues of the patches really appealed to me about this shot and so I thought it deserved to come nest amongst my Flickr stream :)

This is the design of the new napkins I recently bought. I think it is very beautiful. It is by Maija Louekari for Marimekko. All her designs are great. But I especially like this one because: birch trees are my favourite, it makes you feel like it's spring already AND it even matches our Iittala bowls! ;-) :-)
