November 4, 2011 (Fri) - Sectional Semi Final - Away vs. Saratoga Springs HS (2-0)
Katie Nickles' goal tending extraordinaire and nonstop defense by Breanna Swete, Lindsay Woller, Dana Donnelly, and Sam Taillon, (and at times the whole team) led Bethlehem to a 2-0 victory over Saratoga. The Eagles first goal came early as Jackie Kearny’s amazing speed outpaced her Toga defenders to their corner. She made a perfect shot to center goal where Tara Teal was in position to score. Not long after, Allie Olsen at midfield hustled in to an open ball and made another beautiful shot over goalie Liz Rogan’s head to give Bethlehem their 2-0 lead going into the half. Second half action called for all out defense as Saratoga didn’t stop their attack. Katie made 18 saves to give Bethlehem their shut out. The Lady Eagles will meet up with Shenendahowa once again for the Sectional Final on Wednesday Nov. 9 at Stillwater. GO BC!!!
November 1, 2011 (Tues) - Home vs. Niskayuna HS (4-3)
The field was soggy and slippery as the Lady Eagles battled out their first win of sectional playoffs against Niskayuna. Scoring started early with Dana Donnelly’s kick from the back to Tara Teal who put it in net for a 1-0 lead. Nisky was determined and tied it up by the half. Early in the second half, the Lady Eagles widened their lead with two more goals. Dana took it down the side of the field and centered it for Jackie Kearney to finish it off. Shortly after, a pass tipped off the foot of a Nisky player into open space for Tara to take advantage and score the Eagles' third goal. Not ready to be shut down, Nisky came back with two goals in succession to tie it up again late in the second half. The Eagles' victory came after a corner kick got stymied , but not totally cleared out. Dana’s quick feet got to the ball again and she placed a perfect shot over the keeper’s head with less than 3 minutes in the game. Strong defense and hustle kept Nisky from getting near our goal again. Katie Nickles had 11 saves to keep from advancing. Congratulations BC!! Good luck in the Semifinals Friday against Saratoga.
October 22, 2011 (Sat) - Home vs. Columbia HS (4-1)
Bethlehem honored seniors Rachel Coe, Dana Donnelly, Phoebe Gatta, Sarah Hospodar, Jackie Kearney, Allie Olsen, Cassie Smith, and Natalie Sica at their Senior Night game under the lights against Columbia. The air was crisp, cool and still, but the Eagles were hot and on the move. The senior pack advanced quickly down the field dominating the game from the start. They were soon rewarded with a shot by Dana to the middle and Tara Teal ready to put it in the net. Later in the half, Tara scored her second of four goals with a gorgeous kick from outside the box at left field.
As the field became muddier and more slick, the Eagles kept up the pace with a charge up the side by Elle Lutz who centered it in front of the goal for another scoring opportunity by Tara Teal. The Eagles final goal came from a free kick by Dana Donnelly who placed another beauty in front of goal. After a short melee of attempts by Bethlehem and frustrated clearing by Columbia’s defense, Tara made the shot past their keeper. The Eagles enter sectionals with a season record of 11wins, 3 losses, and 2 ties.
October 20, 2011 (Thurs) - Away vs. Mohonasen High School (4-1) Mohonasen had their senior night on Thursday. However, Bethlehem had another victory over Mohonasen. October 18, 2011 (Tues) - Away vs. Colonie Central HS (3-0)
Colonie was determined to thwart a second loss to Bethlehem. With only 2 minutes left in the first half the Eagles scored twice to take the lead. Tara Teal was able to penetrate the Raiders’ defense and take it in for Bethelehem’s first goal. Jackie Kearney followed this with another quick break away for the second goal with 20 seconds left in the half. Second half action became more intense, but Bethlehem secured their win and shut out with a penalty kick inside the box by Tara Teal.
October 13, 2011 (Thurs) - Home vs. Guilderland HS (1-3)
Guilderland set the pace with an early first goal. Autumn Fetterolf tied it up soon thereafter with a shot from a difficult angle. The Eagels persevered with several good attempts at scoring later in the game, but were unable to penetrate the Lady Dutch defense. Katie Nichols goal tending skills shined again with many difficult saves.
October 11, 2011 (Tues) - Home vs. Averill Park Central HS (4-0)
The Lady Eagles second match against Averill Park proved to be a one side match dominated by the full Varsity squad. Tara Teal led off the scoring with quick dribble in putting Bethlehem on the board early in the game. Most attempts at nearing our goal by Averill Park were frustrated by a strong defense. Second half scoring started with Tara’s assist to Stephanie Dootz, followed by Jackie Kearney taking it in to the finish. The Eagle’s 4th goal came from an assist by Elle Lutz to Katherine Dority who was positioned to drive it in, for a 4-0 shut out.
October 6, 2011 (Thurs) - Away vs. Shaker HS (1-1)
October 4, 2011 (Tues) - Home vs. Niskayuna (2-1) The Eagles were on fire as they took on Niskayuna, dominating the first half of the game despite scoring on themselves when the defense tried to clear it out of the goal. Nisky had many good attempts at keeping the lead, but Katie Nickles stymied at least 12 attempts with some of the best goal tending to date. The Eagles were back in action second half with a cross from Tara Teal to Cassie Smith to Stephanie Dootz for Bethlehem’s first goal. The Eagle’s second goal came from another cross by Tara to Stephanie, then to Jackie Kearny who put it away to give the Eagles the lead. Continued hustling by defense and Katie in goal thwarted all attempts by Nisky, giving them their second defeat of the season.
September 30 (Fri) - Away vs. Averill Park Central HS (1-0)
The first (and only) goal of the game was scored by Jackie Kearney, assisted by Tara Teal, only 10 minutes into the first half. In the second half, Katie Nickles had a great save that could have potentially given Averill Park a goal. It seemed that Averill Park was playing more aggressively than they have done in the past. Even then, they were not able to penetrate our defense. We were able to hold them off and gain another victory. September 28 (Wed) - Away vs. Columbia HS (3-1)
Bethlehem jumped out to a lead in the first five minutes when Stephanie Dootz was able to place a perfect high arching shot over Columbia's drawn out keeper. Just before half time Columbia scored to tie the score at 1 -1. In the second half, Katherine Dority's long pass found Tara Teal who scored the Eagle's second goal. Defensive hustle by Lindsey Woller, Brianna Swete, Dana Donnelly, Phoebe Gatta and Sam Taillon and the stingy goal keeping of Emily Venezia nullified Columbia's scoring chances Bethlehem's lead was solidified by Dana Donnelly's goal on a direct free kick to give the Eagles a 3 - 1 win.
