NEW! Drives and Volunteer Sites for BTC Boston 2008!


DRIVES!

 PLEASE bring Cell phones and Books for our Drives!

We will be holding a cell phone drive for Saheli who collects used and new cell phones for South Asian victims of domestic violence (www.saheli.org).  We will also be having a Book Drive for GotBooks, an organization that collects books for local charities, schools, etc. (www.gotbooks.com). (The accept ALL books except for encyclopedias, magazines, readers digest & national geographic) 

 

GET REGISTERED!

 

We’ll be having registration tables at the kick-off event to get you involved with two great causes. First, we’ll have a table for Voter Registration and will be able to help you regster to vote.

Second, we’ll have a table for registering with the National Marrow Donor Program through SAMAR (www.samarinfo.org) to register to be a bone marrow donor.

 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES!

You will be able to choose which events you want to participate in at registration. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.

 

Akshay Patra - Akshay Patra is an organization that provides food to underprivileged children in India. 

They are having their annual fundraising walk on October 5th.  Get creative - adults help them make signs for the walk.  Kids can be involved by making thank you cards for the walkers. (http://www.foodforeducation.org/)

Harvest Food Pantry – Help out at the Harvest Food Pantry in Cambridge. Aid with setting up and distributing food and clothing to individuals in need. Harvest Food Pantry Site.

Location: Cambridgeport Baptist Church; Estimated Time 10:00-12:30; 10 people

 

Boston Healthcare for the Homeless – Boston Healthcare for the Homeless provides healthcare for the homeless.  Work with the patients by leading patient activities like games, crafts, entertainment, etc. (http://www.bhchp.org/)

Location: Boston. Estimated Time 10:30-12:30; 10 people

 

The Greenway Conservancy - The first Greenway parks, North End Parks, Chinatown Park and Wharf District

Parks opened in the fall of 2007 and spring 2008, the creation of which has been a joint effort of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the City of Boston and citizens groups.  Help with the Inaugural Rose Kennedy Greenway Inaugural Celebration - Assist with children's area, Directional guidance, Information tent staffing Audience assistance, Ambassadors, Bus drop off staffing, Handing out information. Location: North End & China Town; Estimated Time 11pm-2:30pm; up to 50 people

 

Mass Audubon Society - Mass Audubon works to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. Volunteer by doing conservancy-type work along the banks of the Charles River reserve area; the work would be outdoors, helping with conservation and clean-up and possible new construction  (http://www.massaudubon.org/).

Location: Forest Hills; Time 10:30 AM –1:30 PM; about 20 people

 

Emerald Necklace Conservancy - Public-private partnership formed to preserve the Emerald Necklace parkland in Boston and Brookline.  Volunteers would be helping clean public gardens & parks and conservation efforts to protect our natural resources. (www.emeraldnecklace.org)

Location: Boston; Estimated Time: 10:30 –1:30 about 20 people
