The Red-tailed hawk population is increasing in urban areas. Some believe that the increase in New York City is due to the cleanup of the Hudson River. However, Red-tailed hawks do not fish, so the health of the river does not explain their increase. Hawks are thought to be among the most intelligent birds and have visual acuity several times that of a normal human being.
