The RX-78 Gundam is the iconic Gundam mecha design, introduced in 1979 in Yoshiyuki Tomino's and Sunrise's anime series Mobile Suit Gundam.
(1979-present), anime television franchise beginning with Mobile Suit Gundam (1979-1980). The series as well as its sequels and spin-offs mostly revolve around the conflicts between the Earth and the space colonies.
{gun-dum}--Large, humanoid robots featured in the work of Hajime Yadate and Yoshiyuki Tomino's Gundam franchise. Also refers to the series itself. See "mobile suit."
