Advance coaches operated daily services from Goole to Scunthorpe and Goole to Gainsborough in the nineteen-sixties when this photograph was taken. Their premises were located in one of the riverside villages outside Goole but it was not unusual to find one of their coaches parked in Goole in between trips. Ouse Street has now disappeared under a retail development and leisure centre complex. It was a residential street with some shops and was located close to the Victoria Lock area of the docks. This part of the town dated from the mid-nineteenth century and was built by the Aire and Calder Navigation Company. EUD986 was first registered in Oxfordshire, but I know nothing of its original owners.

Advanced Passenger Train

The Advanced Passenger Train (APT) was BR's project in the late 70s to early 80s to develop a tilting train for the West Coast Mainline. Ironically Virgin had introduced Pendolino tilting trains on the West Coast Mainline from 2004 to replace loco hauled Mark 3s.
