The StateKerala is the most greenish state of India also well known as the God’s own country.It is formed in the year 1956 from the three princely states of Thiruvithamkur, Kochi and Malabar. In which, Malabar was lately under the direct British rule . Thiruvanathapuram is the capital city of Kerala which is located on the west coast of India. Kochi is the commercial & industrial capital of Kerala. Kochi is also known as the 'Queen of the Arabian Sea'. The biggest sea port and Air port of Kerala is situated here. Thrissur is also a famous city known as the cultural capital of Kerala. 'Thrissur Pooram', is one of the most famous festivals of the state. Kottayam is known as the City of Letters and is the first town of India to be 100% literate. The city, Kozhikode is the most important city of the Malabar region of the Kerala. The state is primarily divided into 14 revenue districts and further divided into 62 Taluks, 53 Municipalities, 1453 revenue villages, 5 corporations and 991 Grama Panchayaths. The waterThere are 44 rivers networked this small state. There are 34 lakes. The major river is Periyar, which is the longest and carries the most water and is the source of most of the hydro electrical power the state generate. Bharathapuzha is the 2nd longest river. Kerala is so gifted with a lot of rivers and lakes. Kasargod district is the district with most rivers flowing through. Vembanadu lake is the biggest lake in the Kerala which is joining the Arabian sea which is also the longest lake of whole India, bordering the districts of Ernakulam, Kottayam and Alappuzha. Astamudi Kayal is the largest fresh water lake of the state which is situated in the Kollam district. The PeaksThe highest peak of the Kerala is 'Ana Mudi', which is also the highest elevation in South India. It is situated near the Iravikkulam National Park, a national park under the Forest department of the Kerala Government. Kerala has many hilly areas and is covered with a lot of forest land. The TourismKerala has many tourist attractions. When the National Geographic Channel selected world's 50 must see places, there was two places selected from India, one was the 'Taj Mahel of Agra' and the other was 'Kerala'. The water networked state has many back water tourism’s and beautiful sea beaches. Kovalam is the most attractive beach of Kerala. Cherai beach in Erankulam district is also a beach destination. Thekady is the most attractive wild life center on the state. Thattekad is the bird sanctuary of the state, which is situated in the Ernakulam district. There are many wild life centers, Palaces, Caves, Temples, Churches, Synagogues etc. to attract the tourists. There are many pilgrim centers like the Sabarimala Temple, the Malayatoor Church and the like which attracts lakhs of Pilgrims. Kerala is also aiming to increase the revenue from the medical tourism. Kerala has finest medical institutions with world class facilities and renowned physicians and offer medical care much affordable for the high cost Western and Middle-East countries. Arts & DancesKerala has some wonderful art forms and traditional dances. Kathakali is the most well-known classical dance form of Kerala. it is a combination of literature, dance, acting, painting and is based on the Hindu mythology. It has formed in the 17th century, it is originated is from another dance form called Krishnattam. Ottenthullal is another classical performing art of Kerala,which is invented by Kunjan Nambiar, one of the famous poets and is one in the trilogy of ancient Malayalam poets. it was introduced in the 18th century. Thullal is so particular because of the simplicity of its presentation, its wits and humor. Mohiniyattam is the most famous female dance form of Kerala. The PeopleThis is a state with a large number of minorities comprising of about 40% of the total population. Christians and Muslims are the major communities here after the Hindu community. The state is so famous for its communal harmony and peaceful life. Kerala is the most literate state of the India, and is also has many outstanding distinctions to its credit. The state has a population of around 300 million and the principal language is Malayalam. |
