Looking Glass Falls Transylvania County, North Carolina Accessed via 276 from Brevard, NC Looking Glass Falls has been photographed from every angle and by everyone. The professionals have been here; the amateurs have been here; the mothers and fathers and kids have been here; the tourists and the locals alike have been here; the photo workshops routinely make this a stop. If you're in or passing through Western North Carolina this is typically the iconic waterfall that you saw or plan to see. The falls have been photographed just about every which way possible in every season available and there are lots of great images out there as a result--this is by no means one of the better images (sharpness of leaves, composition etc). In my personal opinion, the best shots of this waterfall are during low water months (late summer and autumn) when the creek is shallow and when the rocks on the bottom can be seen through shallow, clear water and used as strong foreground elements. So, why stop by you might ask? Several reasons. First, I made a sunrise trip out to Pretty Place Chapel (Flickr contact Dave Allen showed me this wonderful place) that did not pan out and I wanted to get something useful out of the wasted fuel costs. Second, I've got a fairly extensive waterfall collection and this one has often been the subject of a "why don't you have this waterfall?" question! I usually just drive by--I really personally enjoy waterfalls that require a bit of work to get to and that have a bit of an off-the-map, secluded, magical feel about them and this one has just been photographed really well by so many photographers that it is hard to improve on what already exists. Third and finally, I might be leaving the area for awhile to find work and I wanted to have as complete of a personal portfolio of memories as I possibly could--and this is without a doubt the iconic WNC waterfall ;-)

It rained off and on all day. I'm sick as a frog, errrrr, I mean dog, lol. Touch of the flu. You can only take so much asprin and vitamin C and laying around, and then you have to find other ways to take your mind off it. Set this one up in my kitchen, and rather pleased with how it came out, if I do say so myself. Now, if I just had a shot of Jack to put in that glass..:)
