Laundry Room project... Having to replace a cold water valve resulted in trying to fix a recurring problem with the drain freezing up on many occasions. After doing some demolition, it turns out that some genius decided to have the washer's drain pipe configured in a P-trap, where the bottom curve is basically touching freezing cold ground. So, I'm probably going to have to increase the drywall hole another set of studs to the left (at least) and try to install this thing the RIGHT way! Not the best picture, as you can only barely see the drain go down, then the pop back up... One nice (and important!) part of this work is that for as long as possible, the washer & dryer need to remain functional. technical stuff
In the "normal", more expensive, washing-machines the water has been pumped-out by a small pump. The lower range of washing-machines are emptying by just opening a valve at the lowest point of the machine allowing to drain the water off. The valve has been opened by a small motor which has a mechanism with a wire to pull the valve open. These models (Samsung for example) has not been sold in Europe.
