- A valve that closes to prevent backward flow of liquid
- Limits the flow of gas to one direction only. Use a check valve between the bubbler and generator to prevent unwanted pressure build up in the generator, and a safety against a low level bubbler. A check valve, such as used on torches, is recommended.
- A mechanical device in a pipe that permits the flow of water or air in one direction only.
- A check valve, clack valve, non-return valve or one-way valve is a mechanical device, a valve, which normally allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction.

These new spiles have a check valve in them that closes when the vacuum is off so that sap isn't able to re-enter the tree. When the sap goes back in the tree the bits of bacteria that can go back in cause the tree to start healing over faster, meaning that the holes dry up before the season is really over. Last year we changed part of one line to these spiles and from video at the pump house, we decided to do another 5,000 trees this year. That one line from the pump house (and the entire upper bush) is still running much better than the other spiles. checking valve clearance 08' KLR
approx 10 K miles, first valve clearance inspection. all the KLR peeps said I should have done it long ago, the foctory manual sezx 15 K miles...we'll see who's right=:-) i still need to remove the radiator fan before removing the valve cover getting close though
