Day 398 - Day 033
Day 398 - Day 033
“How I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year.” Wish You Were Here: Pink Floyd, Pulse (Disk 2) & Wish You Were here With Pink Floyd songs, I tend to absolutely love them or I could do without them. I really do not have songs that are middle of the road for me. The songs of theirs that have touched and inspired me have done so on such a deep level, and then I hear songs that do absolutely nothing for me. They are quite the conundrum. The power in the live performance of this song is unmistakable. The song has a slow build up and then a plateau, and when they break into the second chorus with this line, well, I get shivers every time. The drums rattle through you and the guitars open with a presence that would wake anyone out of a sound sleep. I love the words of this song, as they paint such vivid imagery- very common in all of their songs. I remember one day when I was working an insane amount of hours, approximately 22 hours a day seven days a week. I had just gotten off from my night job and I was driving home to change clothes and start my next job. I was at a stop light on a cool grey morning and this song came on. I sat at the stop light and went into a daze listening to it. All I could think about was how exhausted I was emotionally and physically. The song drifted in and out of my consciousness and when the chorus came in it pulled me out of my daze. I looked in the rearview mirror to see tears of tiredness and hurt just running down my face. I was tired from the long grueling hours without sleep, and I was hurt because I even had to live like this after my divorce. As hard as it was I knew it was time to make some changes… When I got inside the house my mother stopped me and said, “Okay Chris… enough. You can’t do this to your body.” Soon after that I was down to 3 jobs and then 2. I took away from this memory the ability to recognize when my body, spirit and soul are at their breaking point, and when it’s time to make a change. *** Artist Notes *** The souls are two different drops of dye, and this is actually 2 different shots melded together with Photoshop! Lyrics: So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.
