And the award for best actress goes to ... Layla! Would you believe, not an hour before this photo was taken, poor Layla could hardly stand up on the grooming table? She kept trying to lay down, which was fine while I was trimming her feet and clipping her nails, but I had to make her stand to scissor her legs. As I did so, her right hind leg shook uncontrollably. Now, she did have an owie on that leg that I'd noticed a few days before, but it was healing nicely so I didn't think much of it until this business on the grooming table. I started to think that it was hurting her more than she let on, so I quickly finished up and let her off the table. She then limped over to her favorite chair, pulled herself up rather than hopping up with her usual agility, heaved a great sigh and seemed content to settle down for a little nap. Since Pip had been such a good boy while I was grooming Layla (and had been a good boy last week, when he ended-up getting groomed instead of Layla when she wouldn't come out of hiding from the closet) I thought I would take him over for a romp at Connie's pond. Not wanting to be left behind, Layla followed us to the car, still walking gingerly. Oh, all right, I thought, she could content herself with sniffing around for critters while I throw bumpers for Pip. What happened the moment we got to Connie's place and opened the car door? Both dogs burst out of the car and started tearing across the pastures, Layla leading a game of "catch me if you can." Bravo, Layla, bravo.

Maybe I'm crazy, but Kerry-blue's are one of my favorite dogs to groom. Izzy gets a #7 on her back and I scissor the rest in. It was quite the feat for the day-before Thanksgiving. As a note, I did scissor her tail down further after taking this picture. There are a couple more photo's of her in my grooming folder. Unfortunately I didn't get any good detail shots of her head (though, her headpiece isn't the best.) I'll get those on her next visit.
