American society teaches us, at an early age, that there are certain people who matter more than others. Athletes tend to fit that paradigm of exceptionality the best. The NBA is the best professional sports league at creating individuals who are treated larger than life. Often, the player is more reveled than the team or the franchise. I wanted this idea to be portrayed through my art. My assignment was to create a modern day version of Titian's 'Assumption of the Virgin' (Assunta). I focused, mostly, on the structure of the original oil painting when creating the concept. The Assunta featured three levels of influence; Man, Angels, and God in ascending order. I wanted my comparison to point out the influence the societal norm of larger than life athletes has on children. My levels included children emulating their superhero sports figures, societies bombarding influences, and god-like superstars Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. I want the viewer of this piece to question the absurdity of the message and to realize the influence comes from both sides.

KFC (kentucky fried chicken) is HUGE here! everyone knows KFC! My afternoon class was a bit short because KFC Santa brought "gifts" to the little four year olds. i have to say it asian santas are funny. he just looked so silly jolly! the gift was really a really stupid plastic spoon... it's the thought that counts right?
