This machine looked like some kind of alien jellyfish to me when I first saw it at a museum in Drumheller, Alberta! This particular museum allows visitors to touch most of the exhibits (a rare thing!), so I was able to examine it more closely. I then discovered the tag hanging from it (see other photo) and knew what it was. My mother recognized it instantly when I showed her the photos, and said she was so thankful when home permanents were available. :)
