The Reading Pagoda
The Reading Pagoda
Sits over a old quarry operation that was shut down to protests of it defacing the mountain side. To make up for it the owner William Abbott Witman Sr. built this pagoda to be a hotel however that never happend becouse his application for a license to serve was denied. It was later sold to Jonathan Mould who later sold it to the City of Reading for a buck. Its built in the style of a battle castle of the Shogun Dynasty in Japan that would stand over the city. Before radio broadcasting became prominent the pagoda used flashing lights in the form of Morse Code to direct firemen. A white light represented a dash and a red light represented a dot. It still has a string of red lights along the edge that bright up the mountain side at night. The Skyline of Reading, where the pagoda stands gives a great view of Reading and the sundering areas. The Skyline also has the Fire Tower and east of there many beautiful country homes and farms.

2010-06-14 - Worst Star Test .... EVARRRRRR!!!
While transporting my telescope home from Osoyoos at the end of our camping trip, something got jarred. The poor optical alignment that I've been fighting for months is now much worse and my attempts to re-collimate the telescope have failed. Currently there's no point even looking through the scope. I've had enough, fixing this problem is beyond me. I'm calling in professional help from the Vancouver Telescope Store. The telescope is a Meade 10" Schmidt Newtonian SN-10AT. The star is Vega, shot with a Canon T1i at prime focus. (in the image, the out of focus star should look like a round donut or set of rings, a smaller donut near focus, and a sharp point at focus. Moving past focus, it should look the same as it did before focus)
