Kirkby wartime bunkers to be redeveloped Ambitious plans have been unveiled to redevelop a disused World War Two bunker in Kirkby for business use. The former high explosives store on Knowsley Industrial Park, and adjoining land previously used as the car park of the Kodak factory, will become the new HQ of community transport company Your Travel Borough Wide. Currently the bunker on Draw Well Road extends to around 10,000 sq ft, but up to 20,000 sq ft of space could be created following redevelopment. This would allow other businesses to move to the site alongside the bus operator. These firms could include a garage involved in servicing the Your Travel fleet and a new bus franchise. The bunker scheme has been made possible after Knowsley Council signed a 25-year agreement allowing Knowsley Development Trust - which runs Your Travel - to regenerate the site. The Development Trust has an impressive track record in regeneration and business support in the area. It has successfully run North Mersey Business Centre on Knowsley Industrial Park - home to more than 100 small firms - for over 20 years, and ploughs the profits it makes back into other regeneration projects in the borough. Councillor Dave Lonergan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, commented: “I look forward to seeing the area improved as a result of this agreement. “It is important that we do everything we can to help businesses start up and develop within the Industrial Park.” Knowsley Development Trust Chief Executive, Steve Dumbell, said: “This scheme is another important step forward for the Trust. Our aim is to redevelop the site as a centre of excellence for transport and logistics in the borough. “On the back of the project, we will also be looking to improve the environment and facilities for businesses located around the Draw Well Road area,” added Mr Dumbell. Your Travel Borough Wide was established by the Development Trust in 2004 to meet the transport needs of community groups who were unable to afford the private-sector alternative. Starting out with just six minibuses, the company’s fleet has expanded to 30 vehicles including ten coaches and six 55-seat yellow school buses. These vehicles now handle more than 700,000 passenger journeys a year, and have helped Your Travel to create 26 driver and passenger assistant jobs for local people. About 4 months ago I got in touch with a gentelman named Mike Alderman. He is the Jacksonville, FL franchisee with P&A. Over the phone he asked me a few general questions, getting to know me, both personally and professionally, and convinced that my resume needed no additional work he promised me he would call back within a few days with additional information on the interview process. And he did! With his positive attitude and speedy service, I never felt the need to contact another employer or a consulting firm to pursue my job hunt. Before we go any further in the testimonial for Mike, I would like to share a little about me. In life, I always get what I put my mind to but with a few hiccups here and there. While applying for a new job in this economy is no easy task, can you imagine the hiccups I had in this process. I cannot even begin to explain how at times it was so brutal with long waits and countless phone calls just checking with each other on the status. Mike is most definitely an asset to Patrice & Associates and will be successful in his franchise. In my experience of working with Mike for the last 4 months, he has been very professional, diligent, thorough and reliable. He made this process a little less painful I must say. He never gave up on me and anyone in my position (looking for a better opportunity) needs to hear and feel the support. Thank you for caring Mike!!!! I found Mike to have a strong work ethic, excellent follow up skills, efficient, easy to work with and innovative. Mike's biggest strength would be his capacity to care for his candidates. He would call me on a regular basis, keep in touch with me (I responded, of course), check on me and keep me posted with any new developments (many a times nothing happened and it would end up being a nail biting call). It was not just an average business transaction and he made me feel cared for as a person rather than a candidate. When I got hired, I received a basket of chocolates (I opened the box thinking it is from someone else) and to my surprise it was from Mike. Inside there was a small note that read "FINALLY" (which ONLY the two of us can relate to) wishing me well and congratulating me. Thank you so much, you really touched my heart. Mike, it was a pleasure to work with you and I would recommend Mike to anyone as his experience, warm personality and charm would benefit any organization or an individual. Thank you for everything you have done for me.
