Bere Ukes are a group of people who meet in Bere Ferrers to play ukuleles, sing a bit and generally have a good time.  The group meet weekly at Bere Ferrers Church Hall and have done a number of performances since their formation in January 2010.

Performances in the first year included slots at the monthly acoustic nights, joint founder member Ann’s significant birthday party, a village summer garden party, parties in Bere Ferrers Social Club, an Oxjam concert and the Ukes were asked to perform at the Harvest Festival service at St Andrew’s Church in Bere Ferrers.  Additionally, a number of the players join in at Mike's music nights in the Olde Plough in Bere Ferrers on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

A large Ukes performance was at the Bere Ukes and Friends concert held at Bere Alston Bowling Club on 9 April 2011.  This event sold out and raised £1200 for the Weir Quay Community Watersports Hub Club funds.  The picture above shows the Ukes relaxing in the sun whilst awaiting their sound check slot.
We did number about 20 regular players, mainly from Bere Ferrers, although we have recently been joined by enthusiasts from Looe, Tavistock, Bere Alston, Calstock and Launceston.  The majority have had no previous experience of playing musical instruments, and are having great fun learning the ukulele and at the same time having a great sing song.

Mike is our musical director and ukemeister and we provide ‘buddies’ to help new members quickly gain confidence to join the main group.

Tuition is free and all we do is make a nominal £2.00 charge to cover rental of the hall and power. So come along and join us!
