Who we are
We are a small, friendly, Crown Green Bowls Club.
The club is, itself, part of the Belper Meadows Community Sports Club, which also has Cricket, Tennis and Hockey (both Men's & Ladies) sections.
Despite being close to the centre of Belper, we are fortunate to be located in one of the most peaceful and picturesque places in the County.
New members are always welcome
Club Contacts
There is a separate page giving details of the Club Secretary,

Where to Find us
Belper is 8 miles north of Derby on the A6.
Access to the green is off the A6, close to the traffic lights at the junction with the A517 (to Ashbourne), at 'The Triangle'. Travelling north on the A6, take the left turn immediately before the traffic lights, then turn immediately left down the side of Christ Church, following the road alongside Belper Town FC to the Belper Meadows Sports Club (the Bowls Club is to the right, behind the pavilion and adjacent to the tennis courts).
The map/ satellite image below shows the location of the bowling green.
The map is searchable- you can zoom in or out (mouse-wheel or +/- buttons), or move the centre of the map by dragging it.
Photo Gallery
We are grateful to Terry Fletcher for the many photos he has taken over recent seasons. View them (and many others) in the Photo Gallery; there are photos from competitions, league matches and general bowling.
Club News
Katrina Wooddisse
I am sorry to tell you that Katrina Wooddisse passed away on 31st October at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital in Derby.
Katrina and her late husband, John, joined the bowls club in 2003 and was an active member of the club, until ill health stopped her bowling a few years ago.
She played in many of our league teams over the years and ran our Sunday mornings Socials with John for a number of years. She also supported all our off the field activities, often being our chief raffle ticket seller.
After she was unable to bowl, Katrina regularly attended our Friday mornings game sessions, enjoying the jigsaws, until her ill health stopped her.
Her funeral will take place at Derby Crematorium Round Chapel on Thursday November 28th at 1.00pm
Val Allwood
I am sorry to inform you that Val Allwood passed away on Thursday 17th October. Val joined Belper Meadows BC in 2016, prior to that she had bowled, with distinction, for Horsley BC for many years. Val quickly became a valuable member of Belper Meadows playing for the Ladies team, including captaining the SD Ladies team to promotion in their final season. She also played for the Over 55's, Wednesday Doubles, Saurday Singles and the Matlock League. Although she was unable to bowl this season due to her ill health, she was able to Captain the Wednesday Doubles team to League Cup success. She will be missed. Our sympathies go to Mick and the family.
Her funeral will be held at Swanwick Crem on 13th November at 11.00am
Success for Wed Doubles team and Tues Evening Teams.
Congratulations to the Wed Doubes team who have won the Div 2 Cup. They defeated Little Eaton B 95 - 59 at Etwall. Well done to everyone who played for the team.
Congratultaions also to the Tues Evening Team who have gained promotion to Div 1 for next season. Well done to Sandra and all her team.
Green Closure
The Green will close after the Vets League game on Monday 9th September. This is a little earlier than usual as we need to have the Green reseeded after the 4 floods of last year. We hope by starting this earlier than usual it will have a better chance of success.
Warm Space Social Time
Following the success of the summer social bowling and lunch on Fridays, the Club is once again , over the closed season, offering an opportunity for social time from 11.30 to 3.00pm Fridays, including games, drinks etc. Last year it was combined with the Warm Spaces inititive, and not therefore confined to club members and we intend that to continue- if you know of anyone who might benefit bring them along for a bit of social time.
Open Doubles Competition
A Successful Competition was held. The winners were Ken Sharples and his partner Oliver Walters from Derby Co op Bowls Club
