Call to Order: 7:00 p.m.

OFFICER REPORTS

 

Principal’s Report

            - The school year is off to a smooth start with an enrollment of 776 students
            from rec to grade 5.

 

-          The school has a new administrator in training for the 2008-2009 school year.

-          New PTA Liason – Christy Mauser

-          New Kindergarten room scheduled for 2009 as well as an addition to the back of the school.

-          Hoping for additional parking for 2010-2011

-          Mrs. Wright had to go out on medical leave for the duration of her pregnancy with twins.

 

VP Report

            -“Pick- A- Time” is the online conference scheduling program

                        - open for a 1-2 week period

-school will offer office support and the lab will open to families without
 Internet access

Q – Is this a first come, first serve?

A- No, there should be enough openings for every family

- Homework club is now Cheetah Achievers

            - Invitation only

            - First and Second Grade Students M-W from Oct – May

            - Early Intervention Program

            - $1 per class

            - Perhaps ask Watch D.O.G. volunteers to help out as well

 

 

President:

-          Same anonymous donor as last year offers to sponsor newsletter again this year

-          PTA receives Thank-yous from 07-08 Kindergarteners for books

o        Thank yous from teachers and staff for appreciation efforts

-          PACE Presentation

-          Boys Night Out for 3-5 boys and Dads scheduled for Nov. 13

o        Girls Night Out will happen later this year

 

Treasurer:

-          Add-ins for Cheetah Achievers and Watch D.O.G.S allows for projected surplus of $1300

-          See attached

 

First VP:

-          Creating a master CD with pictures of PTA events

-          Chic-fil-a and Eggspectations give gift certificates for thank-you’s

-          Unos Pizzeria still offering incentives for students

 

Second VP:

 -None-

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS (i.e. Market Day, Fundraising, Int’l Night, Watch D.O.G.S, Box Tops et al)

 

1. Staff – thanks for the food// Indoor/ Outdoor recess games, ball cage and jump-rope holder from the Wal-Mart Grant are great!

 

2. Afterschool – Golf, Abrakadoodle, Small Talk – Spanish Language Program on schedule// Still looking at Chess Club and Robotics

 

3. Box Tops – So far, so good – Earned over $350 since the first day of school (submit twice annually in October and February)

 

4. Grocery Partners – Can sign up for duration of child’s time at Bellows with new database

            - Volunteers at Back to School Nights for new enrollment

            - Target Visa offers incentives as well – no renewal

 

5. Fall Festival -  positive response for committee, but still  need volunteers

            -Thurs. October 16 from 7-8:30

            - Sign up sheet passed around

 

6. Lavenders’ Fundraiser – Still advertising and garnering support// get kids enthused with Pandas and bamboo leaves

 

7. Membership – MD State PTA – “Let’s Get Growing” Campaign

                        - Thinking of building “PTA House” to demonstrate importance of
                        membership (i.e. one brick = one parent/ household)

 

New Business:

           

-          Christie Mauser – Parent Liason to new families at Bellows

o        10-15 minute phone call welcoming them to school

-          Reflections – County, State and National arts company

o        Theme is “WOW!”

-          Spiritwear – New Logo vs. Old?

o        – 4 items: Hooded Sweatshirt, Basic T, Sweatpants, Sweatshirt

o        $1 profit per item sold

-          Howard County School PTA’s now in charge of their own web sites

o        Scott Ewart new Bellows’ webmaster

-          Reimbursements – Fill out form to accompany receipt – necessary in case of audit
